After setting up the basic things(residence, bank account, TU stuff) it's time to get your social part running.
A mobile phone number is the next time to contact each other when you have found your new friends.
In the Netherlands there are 5 big companies that provide telecommunications.

In descending order of service, quality and price (more expensive ones usually provides better signals):

1. KPN www.kpn.nl
2. Vodafone www.vodafone.nl
3. Orange www.orange.nl
4. T-mobile www.t-mobile.nl
5. Telfort. www.telfort.nl

For more informations and promotions you can check their websites.
When you want to buy your first simcard, there are 2 different 'plans':
1. prepaid card
2. subscription for a contract for 1 or 2 years.

Prepaid provides more flexibility and charged the calls immediately.
Contract provides you the ability to make calls when your balance is zero and these will be charged at the end of the month.
Compared to prepaid the contract is cheaper, it gives you more minutes to call for the same amount of money.

There are 2 ways to get a new simcard:

1. order online
2. order it at a mobile phonecompany

IMPORTANT: when you want to apply for the contract, remember to take your bank card, bank statement, ID card and maybe your passport. These are neccessary.  Cool

What are your recommendations (like which one's the cheapest)? And which one has the best coverage?  Huh

The list already gave you the answer. KPN offers the best service and signals, but it's also the most expensive. Telfort is cheapest and their coverage is fine.

3days ago I signed a contract of T-mobile.Later  I found it was no network for sending a SMS to China or receiving frome China. It's a big problem for me. And now I 'dl like to stop the contract and sign another mobile company such as Telfort. I have checked Telfort is supported by chinamobile. I wonder if  I should pay some money for stoping the contract and how much. And there is a website which is very cheap for signing the simcard  of Telfort. But there are some blanket you should fill to apply it and all the words are duch. I hope somebody can translate it into english. thanks maybe these pictures can not show normally so I write the website here. http://www.gsm.nl/?iMenu_id=630?osadcampaign=affiliates_daisycon

What I know from experience:

T-Mobile: Good for calling alot, not good for sending messages.
Vodafone: Good for calling (not as much as T-Mobile), not good for sending messages. Quite expensive.
Orange: Average for calling, good for sending messages. Big plus: It's an All-In-One. Quite expensive.
KPN MobilePlus: Good for nothing!! Bad for making calls (very expensive). Only good for sending messages!!! Also very expensive!
